A  missed watercolour purchase many moons ago of a rainbow pile of penguin books has never been forgotten.  Recently after seeing a pile of penguin books in a rainbow pile I couldn’t resist trying to create my own version.  Whilst visiting my 83yr old Dad I explored his loft for the bookcases of orange and green books (some of which had sadly been mouse nibbled on the spines), and found many excellent titles to try to recreate.  Luckily I also came across a bag of fabrics I had  hand dyed for my hat project on my embroidery degree, which happened to be in some of the correct faded colours. A plan was emerging - old book covers and piles of books embroidered and sewn onto old napkins and tablecloths. It's quite a long process but each one is unique and I am thoroughly enjoying working my way through the great titles I found in the loft.

Simon Farr

Simons' art work is conceived like pop songs. Each exhibition is like an album. He uses pen, ink, watercolour, pastel and conté  crayon to make narrative images that hover around in the vein of humour, love, absurdism and folly.

Simon has a background as a magazine and newspaper illustrator and  cartoonist - everything from spot illustrations in the Spectator or the Mail to political cartoons for the Guardian. His work has appeared at the Royal Academy Summer Show and the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. He has been selected a number of times for  the Association of Illustrators Annual exhibition. This year he was  selected for the Artist of The Year show at the  Mall galleries. In 2017 he had a one man show at the Garage Gallery in Aldeburgh.
Simon has recently become an enthusiastic Ipswich resident.
